  • Preparing for The Deathly Hallows

First we were sad because our journey was coming to an end..

Then we realized there were 750 pages awaiting us!

    Hermione and Luna looking confounded...

    We just couldn't stop talking...

Then we started dueling...it was a draw.

The Muggles looked on, confused at the nerdiness of it all...

We got the Hallows and we were excited...or scared...not sure.

    Yeah, excited...

And then we all sat down and read the book through the night.  We finished at 11:30 AM ish!

  • Extra

So being an extra is fun and boring all at the same time.

The first thing that we did each day was change into our 1976 gear.  mine is a blue polyester suit with flowers embroidered on the back - very uncomfortable.  On the first day we went through hair and makeup.  The hair people told me I had beautiful hair, which was the nicest thing to hear from pros.  The makeup people were ridiculous, they gave my crazy fushia lipstick and blue eyeshadow.  Yuck.

Then we sat around for a few hours.  They served us catered food, very much like Joseff's taco bar.  Then we sat around again.

Finally around 10PM we went to shoot our first scene, where we run out of the auditorium after our basketball team, the Flint Michigan Tropics, have just done well in the big game.  I had to make some fast friends and pretend that i went to the game with them.  That's where I met Lauren, who I hung out with the rest of the day and most of the next day.  So me, Lauren, and some dude whose name we didn't remember were BFFs for this scene.  We all come running straight into the camera, jumping up and down and screaming all excited.  It was fun!  We did that scene four times and then moved on to the next one.

The second scene was a tailgating scene, which takes place before the big game.  For this scene I was paired up with some dude who was supposed to be my boyfriend.  His name, no lie, was Adam.  LOL.  So me and Adam get put smack dab in front of three cameras, including a crane camera, and we have to drink O'Douls, but pretend it's Bud because they're a sponser in the movie.  We shot this take four or five times and then that was it for the day.  We were finally let go at about 2AM.  Then I drove home from Detroit, which was scary at 2AM to go all the way back to GR.

The second day was pretty much more of the same, except it was in Flint this time and I avoided hair and makeup so they couldn't put that awful blue stuff on me.  We shot a scene that was very similar to the first scene that we did in Detroit, only this time we were running out of the Capital Theatre in Flint and we had to "party in the streets."  Let me tell you, partying in the streets is fun the first four times, but the fifth, sixth, and seventh times, not so much.  We jumped around and hugged random people, danced about and drank fake beer.  It was very tiring!  We met the director both days, and I hung out with my fake boyfriend Adam both days.  In fact, you may be able to see him pick me up and twirl me around during the party in the streets scene, depending on which take they use.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet any of the actors because all of their scenes were shot during the day and my call time wasn't until 6PM.  Some people who owned 70's era cars did get to meet them, however.  The director was really nice and said that we were doing an excellent job, much better than LA extras because we were actually excited.

On the second day they let us go at about 2:30AM and I drove back to GR, this time it was a slightly shorter trip, however.  Now, I really wish I could catch up on sleep but my schedule is all screwed up, as you can tell by the time that I'm posting this!

Feel free to ask any questions about my time as an extra, I'm sure I'll remember more when I wake up a bit more.  And, look for me in Semi-Pro, coming to theatres 2/29/08!
